Today, we focus on one of the top wines of Schaefer's stunning 2016 collection, the Dompobst Auslese #14.

Across the board, the wines possess a stunning refinement, grace and ageablity. Schaefer's auslesen takes all of these qualities to a profound level. Every vintage, we chase down as much of Schaefer's wines as we can find and we still never land quite enough of the auslesen.

For context, there's only one other listing for full bottles and two listings for half-bottles of the Auslese #14 in the country.

Willi Schaefer's 2016 collection are some of the top examples of the pristine nature of the vintage. The Auslese #14 dramatizes this in a very thrilling way.

There are ultra-clear layers of yellow and exotic fruits, but what makes the wines stand out is its salty minerality and silky, finessed acidity. The total package is incredibly clear, precise and complex.

Mosel Fine Wine's, Jean Fisch and David Rayer sum up Schaefer's 2016s well when they write: "There are some legendary wines in the making and wine lovers should lay their hands onto some of these gems!" The Auslese #14 is a high point of Schaefer's 2016s and the entire vintage in Germany. Schaefer fans shouldn't miss this.
