"This is just about as majestic as Barbera gets"
2013 Giacomo Conterno Barbera Francia

Like everything from Conterno, his Barbera Francia is a special wine.

Roberto Conterno is one of the world's great winemakers. Whether it's his Cerretta or his Francia, his work with Barbera basically redefines the category.

The 2013 Francia is simply an epic example of this.

Antonio Galloni writes that the 2013 is "utterly magnificent." It's dense and enveloping, with explosive mid-palate complexity. For all of its textural resonance, there's an electric core that keeps it dynamic.

I don't know of a Barbera available that pays dividends in the cellar like Conterno's. We expect this combination of force and verve in the 2013 to evolve beautifully. It promises to be one of the longer-lived versions of recent years.

Tasting Conterno's 2013 Francia Barbera, it's clear that Conterno works on an outrageously high level. Whether it's his Monfortino or his Barbera, he always creates something extraordinary.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "Utterly magnificent in the glass, 2013 Barbera d’Alba Francia presents a rich, almost demi-glace like texture that envelops the palate. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, hard candy, rose petal and wild flowers all flesh out effortlessly. The 2013 has the energy of a cool, late-ripening vintage, but with striking inner sweetness and depth. Elegant, restrained and sophisticated, the 2013 is another real gem from Roberto Conterno. This is just about as majestic as Barbera gets."
