"This is potentially brilliant and very much worth your interest"
2020 Lafarge Volnay 1er Clos des Chenes

There's something magical and captivating about Lafarge's wines and their understated grace.

I'm always excited to be able to offer the wines.

Lafarge is one of our favorite producers; there is just something about the delineation, the fine-ness, and the purity of the wines. They are wines that offer a truly soulful drinking experience.

Lafarge's wines are known for gorgeous clarity and precision. Clos des Chênes represents the pinnacle of these elements. For me, like so many others, there’s a level of refinement that makes it stand out.

As it always is, Lafarge's Clos des Chênes is one of three or four top examples of Volnay in 2020. The Clos des Chênes is Lafarge's top site. There's a level of refinement that makes it stand out along with a delicately balanced long finish.

Lafarge is known for possessing beautiful clarity matched to a sturdy structure. The 2020 Clos des Chênes is a textbook example of this. It's a bottle that will sing after a decade or two in the cellar. The precision, concentration, and balance make the ageability factor obvious.

Lafarge's 2020 is incredible. I'll close the email with a quote from Burghound: "Readers may recall that I could scarcely have been more enthusiastic about the Lafarge 2019s but the quality of their 2020s is just as good if not better. If you can find them, don't hesitate as they are, almost across the board, stunning." We couldn't agree more.

Burghound: "Super-fresh aromas are comprised by notes of black cherry, plum and raspberry coulis laced with exotic tea and discreet earth wisps. There is excellent size, weight and intensity to the larger-scaled and more muscular flavors that also possess notably fine-grained tannins on the hugely long and even more complex finale. This is potentially brilliant and very much worth your interest."
