Bachelet is special - a tiny 4ha estate with an outsized reputation. The wines possess a haunting nuance and soulfulness. Every vintage I devote an incredible amount of effort tracking down as much Bachelet as I can get my hands on.
Bachelet has been on an incredible run of vintages and 2020 is yet another story of profound success. As Burghound writes, "Bachelet has once again made stunning wines though this is hardly a surprise given his virtually unblemished track record for producing wines of grace and style."
Corbeaux is a mysterious little plot of dirt, prone to being overlooked, as it is sandwiched directly next to the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin and the village of Gevrey-Chambertin itself. The vineyard is tough to classify, yet the choicest parcels create a wine that mirrors the complexity of the site itself.
Bachelet's Gevrey Corbeaux comes from vines that are very old, ranging from 60 to 70 years in age. It is a powerful, deep and complex wine - it always shows an impressive concentration and Gevrey's typical muscle, but it carries its weight effortlessly, leaving an impression of fine-ness and discreetness.
The 2020 has unmistakable wild notes of earth, game and smoke. This is combined with an impeccable precision and nuanced delicacy. Corbeaux is a cool site and this endows the wine with a sleek elegance.
I'm going to keep this short. Bachelet's perfectionist methods and the results are well known. I'll just mention that 2020 is a really stunning vintage at Bachelet and the 2020 Corbeaux shouldn't be missed.
