"This is terrific and well worth searching out"
2019 Bessin Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

Burghound's note sums things up nicely.

Bessin's 2019 Valmur is simply a dynamite Grand Cru Chablis.

Valmur is one of my favorite sites in Chablis. It's energetic, ruthlessly mineral, and incredibly finessed. Along with Raveneau and Moreau-Naudet, Bessin's example makes the greatness of the site very obvious.

The 2019 is a breakout vintage for Bessin, and the Valmur is the high point. The wine offers up a beautiful combination of power, clarity, and elegance. Everything is presented with extraordinary balance.

I was blown away the first time I tasted the wine. It has incredible concentration with a tactile minerality and serious saline imprinted length. The Valmur is sourced in part from very old vines, and they make themselves felt in the wine's gripping intensity.

For many years Bessin has been an insider wine quietly bought by fans of classic Chablis. The 2019 Valmur is such a success that it demands an introduction to a larger audience. I'm very happy to offer this modest parcel.

Burghound: "Here the wood treatment is more discreet and easily allows the sea breeze, quinine and citrus-inflected aromas to be appreciated. There is once again very good size, weight and volume to the intense, mineral-driven and overtly powerful flavors that already possess excellent complexity on the superbly long and well-balanced finale. This too is clearly built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least some. In short, this is terrific and well worth searching out provided you have the discipline to cellar it for at least a few years."
