"This Kabinett is truly remarkable!"
2020 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett

Posted by Joe Salamone

The vintage turned out a cast of Kabinetts that we haven't seen in over a decade.

Willi Schaefer's Kabinetts are some of the high points of the vintage.

Simply put, Schaefer is one of the top collections of the 2020 vintage and the Kabinetts are amazing.

Schaefer's 2020 Kabinetts have a pristine clarity and incredible harmony. There's an incisive and crystalline expression that's exciting.

Out of Schaefer's lineup, Himmelreich produces Kabinetts with the most cut and salty minerality of his sites. There's something especially gripping about the agility, punch, and mineral tension of the Himmelreich Kabinett.

The 2020 Himmelreich Kabinett dramatizes kinetic energy and blazing slatey minerality that defines the wine. Jean Fisch and David Rayer draw attention to the wine's "incredible silky airiness." This gives you a really good idea of the levity that it has to offer. There's plenty of intensity with the miraculous weightless quality that only the best Kabinetts achieve.

We've learned to approach Willi Schaefer's Kabinett offers with trepidation. Schaefer's Kabinetts have such a following that there is always an onslaught of orders. With the incredible success of Schaefer's 2020 Kabinetts and Himmelreich specifically, we're expecting an even bigger response than usual.

Mosel Fine Wines: "The 2020er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It offers a superb nose made of residual scents from the spontaneous fermentation, chalky minerals, wet stone, mirabelle, cassis, melon, pear, and some subtle aniseed elements. The wine is beautifully pure and airy on the palate and leaves a stunningly juicy feel in the long, subtly ripe, and spicy finish. The wine really shines through its incredible silky airiness delivered with the presence and zest of a light Spätlese. This Kabinett is truly remarkable!"
