Anything that Equipo Navazos releases is an extraordinary example of sherry. Still, the Oloroso #78 is miraculous.
This is a special barrel selection from an extremely old Oloroso from a solera that's enjoyed fame since the late 19th century.
There's no getting around the fact that this is a staggeringly intense wine. What really stands out with the #78 is its lifted aristocratic elegance.
The "Bota No" on the label is a reference to a barrel within a solera that has been identified as possessing special qualities and aren't drawn from during the scheduled bottling routine. The wine in that barrel grows even more intense.
As you could guess, the Oloroso #78 is insanely concentrated, delivering a crushing complexity. It's kaleidoscopic in its presentation of salty, savory, umami-inflected layers that are complemented by spice, citrus and minerals. It's a breathtaking wine.
This is a wine that's meant to be drunk in small quantities and meditated over the way that you would a very old Cognac or Armagnac. A bottle lasts almost indefinitely when open.
Before closing, I should mention that only 1,000 half-bottles were produced and Equipo Navazos' releases are hunted down aggressively. This parcel is modest. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
