2012 Lauer Ayler Kupp Spätlese Fass 7
Lauer's Sweet Side
"This is a must-have Spätlese for lovers of the light, filigreed and delicate fruity-styled wines." -Mosel Fine Wines
Lauer is one of our most loved German producers. Since introducing the wines to the U.S. in 2009, we've written countless emails about the wines. And, in no time, there was a huge following. The wines are undeniably beautiful.
With only one or two exceptions, our offers have focused on Lauer's dry and off-dry wines. Today, we turn our attention to Lauer's sweet side for our first Lauer Spätlese offering ever.
Simply put, Lauer's 2012 Ayler Kupp Spätlese is stunning.
It's a tour de force of the Saar and Lauer's uncanny ability to capture its spirit. The 2012 Spätlese is Riesling at its most brilliant and ethereal. There's a near weightlessness to it yet it is intense and penetrating.
The wine represents one of the special and rare confluences of vintage, producer and site. The result is one of the most nimble and riveting examples of Spätlese from 2012. The precision, the balance and the tension are spot on.
As Jean Fisch and David Rayer of Mosel Fine Wines write, "this stunning beauty is all about freshness."
For Lauer fans, this is a definite "don't miss". The 2012 Spätlese thrives on subtlety, elegance, finesse and a steely, mineral-laden backbone - all the key elements of a Lauer Riesling.
This will be fascinating to track over the next decade and likely beyond, which is one of the reasons why we're offering special 4-pack pricing. (The wine is also just delicious, so you'll definitely want it around in quantity.) Before closing, I should mention that we're dealing with pretty modest quantities and I expect this to sell out over the weekend.
