Drouhin simply excelled in 2019. Few Burgundy producers succeed in ripe vintages the way that Drouhin does. Their delicate and understated style thrives in these years.
The tidy summary of the 2019 vintage in Burgundy is that it was a ripe one that produced wines that miraculously remained fresh and with vivid terroir imprints. The total package is very impressive.
The 2019 Gevrey AC is a compelling example of this. In the right vintage, Drouhin's villages wines are among the best deals in red Burgundy that I know. In the magnum format, this is a cellar essential for the Burgundy value hunter.
I enjoy how Drouhin's 2019 combines Gevrey's soil-inflected muscle with the producer's refined and ultra-pure style. In 2019, you can expect everything to be magnified in a very flattering way.
The reason why I always return to Drouhin's wines is how nothing is forced and how they express themselves with such precision and clarity. The 2019 Gevrey is a very powerful example of this.
