Last week, we offered Roagna's 2020 Pira. Today, I couldn't resist returning with the 2014 Pira.

They blew me away the first time I tasted them at the estate in fall 2019, and nothing has changed since then. I was so impressed that I named the 2014 Barbaresco Albesani my wine of the year in 2020.

In 2014, Pira really shines. There's a subtle radiant complexity to the wine that's heartbreaking. You get everything from bright fruits to spice, earth, flowers, and much more. It is simply gorgeous, displaying incredible perfume, beautiful textural allure, purity, and delineation that are mind-blowing.
While Roagna is closely associated with Barbaresco, the Barolo Pira is, along with Barbaresco Pajè, a flagship bottling. Roagna's Pira is always one of the most finessed and lifted of the collection.
The Roagna family purchased the monopole site in 1989. It is endowed with vines going back to 1937 and a fascinating soil composition of iron-rich limestone and blue and gray marls.
I'm really happy to have another opportunity to offer a Roagna from 2014. The wines are simply brilliant. The Pira drive this home.
