Thriving On Finesse:
2014 Jouan Morey St. 1er Cru Denis Clos Sorbé

Posted by Ian McFadden

We've become obsessed with Jouan's wines.

The other night we opened a 2014 Clos Sorbé and it was simply killer. And a perfect summary of why Jouan's wines have become so important to us.

It was a study in understatement and finesse, thriving on an airy gracefulness and utter clarity.

Clos Sorbé is very likely Morey's most heartbreakingly delicate site. In the hands of Jouan (and of course, the retired Jacky Truchot), Clos Sorbé is a devastatingly intricate, lacey and mineral expression of Red Burgundy.

Jouan's wines have a cult following. They are some of the most mysterious, beautiful and subtle Burgundies that you'll taste. All of Jouan's wines have a captivating mixture of perfume and delicacy. His Clos Sorbé is hauntingly brilliant.

The 2014 has amazing transparency with lifted notes of earth, game and crushed red berry fruit. It exemplifies all that I love about the 2014 red Burgundies. There's a beautiful poise and energy with classical proportions.

There's not much more to say besides we're looking at fairly small quantities. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
