Simply put, Jouan's wines are special. His wines are some of the most mysterious, beautiful, and subtle Burgundies I know.
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy is legendary for how warm the summer was. At this early point, it seems like the vintage will produce some extraordinary wines with soaring complexity and sturdy acid backbones. You can expect Jouan's 2018s to exploit all the seductive textures that the vintage delivered. There's also loads of grace, nuance, and poise.
Gevrey is known for its muscle and meatiness. The lieu-dit "Aux Echezeaux" complicates this image of Gevrey somewhat. It's located in the southern part of the appellation on the border of Morey-St.-Denis. It's more delicate and has a velvety mouthfeel. Obviously, these qualities play right into Jouan's hands.
Jouan's 2018 Aux Echezeaux takes Gevrey's textbook soil-inflected minerality and adds a beguiling cast of aromatics, an enchanting textural allure and lift.
