Tiny Production, Utterly Magical
2014 Willi Schaefer Domprobst Spätlese Auction

In 2014, Schaefer produced a tiny amount of Domprobst Spätlese and it all went to auction.

For this bottling, they focused on a top section of Domprobst planted with ungrafted vines and did a ruthless selection of the grapes from this tiny parcel. As you can imagine, what resulted was very special.

I have to warn you: every time we offer a Schaefer Auction bottling it sells out quickly.

Few producers anywhere in the world are loved as much as the Schaefer family. The reason is pretty easy to understand. Their wines are incredibly detailed, fine and graceful. The wines' serene precision is very likely without peer

As good as Schaefer's regular releases are, the auction bottlings are even better. The auction bottlings seem to take all of the detail, elegance and purity of the regular bottles and consolidate and amplify it. We were reminded about this a couple of weeks ago at Rieslingfeier when a '96 Auslese GK Auction was one of the wines of the night.

Schaefer produced a beautiful cast of 2014s and the spätlese auction represents the high point of the collection. It's that beautifully proportioned and multifaceted.

Willi Schaefer, along with Egon Müller, Prüm and old Von Schubert, has supplied us with more mind-blowing bottles than anyone else. The 2014 Spätlese Auction seems poised to age into an amazing bottle over the next few decades.
