2013 Roumier Chambolle-Musigny

As a recent bottle of 1999 Roumier Chambolle reminded me, this is no ordinary villages wine.

I've drunk Roumier's '99 Chambolle at least a dozen times and each time it keeps on getting better. If you want evidence that Roumier is one of Burgundy's elite, a status shared with Rousseau and DRC, you don't have to look any further than the Chambolle.

For me, this is the greatest villages wine in all of Burgundy.

What sets Roumier's Chambolle apart is its outrageous purity and concentration. I love how classically Chambolle it is with its elegance, precision and silky texture. In 2013, the wine boasts a particular energy and transparency that's simply beguiling. When I tasted at Roumier earlier this year, I was blown away by the verve, clarity and concentration of the entire range.

Every year, I put just as much effort into tracking down Roumier's Chambolle AC as I do his top Grand Crus. In my mind, it's a wine that we have to offer.

The sad fact is that it's getting harder and harder to find the wine in quantity and the circle of people that I can offer it to narrows. As always, I'm excited to offer Roumier's Chambolle, but I have no doubt that it will disappear by the end of the day.
