De Sterlich's Trebbiano is one of our most exciting finds of the year.
Mostly based on examples from Valentini, but also Amorotti and Pepe, we believe that in the right hands, the Trebbiano grape can produce very serious white wines.
De Sterlich's Trebbiano has quickly become one of our go-to examples of the heights that the grape can reach. It showcases the depth of complexity and sleek elegance that the grape is capable of. In terms of finessed purity, De Sterlich's example is unrivaled.
The estate was founded in 2017 by two friends Roberto Fracassa and Alessandro Massacesi. Roberto's family owns a salumeria that's famous throughout the region. Roberto and Alessandro were able to purchase highly regarded vineyards, which they've farmed biodynamically from the start, and received advice from Valentini's longtime consultant, Professor Seghetti.
The 2021 Trebbiano delivers salty Adriatic minerality, along with floral notes and a subtle earthiness that speaks of the dry, sun-scorched land. We were really impressed by the wine's pristine clarity and energy.
This is a bottle that we plan to return to again and again through the warm months ahead. We also plan to stash some bottles away assuming that with a few years of aging, it will become even more fascinating. We created special 4-pack pricing to encourage you to purchase this in decent quantity. You'll be happy that you did.
