Unadorned Minerality
Laherte Frères Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature
At a recent tasting, this bottle jumped out to the entire staff.
It's easily one of the most balanced Brut Nature Champagnes we've tasted and delivers some of the best value of any Champagne we tasted this year.
We also count it as one of the most fascinating expressions of Chardonnay from Champagne. There's such an intriguing depth of minerality and length.
Over the past handful of years, Laherte has emerged as one of the most talented growers in Champagne. The majority of Laherte's vines are in Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, an area between the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne.
The Blanc de Blancs is mainly sourced from Coteaux Sud d’Epernay with a small amount of wine from Côte des Blancs. The Coteaux Sud d’Epernay has a chalky soil with a thin layer of clay on top.
The result is an expression of Chardonnay that's emphatically mineral, but richer and earthier than what's associated with Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Laherte captures the terroir with shocking acuity. The Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is an incredibly pristine presentation of this unique minerality. For all its intensity and length, the Brut Nature is beautifully detailed.
This is so characterful, so transparent and simply compelling; I strongly suggest that you try this. The value that it offers only sweetens the deal.
