Ulysse Collin is known for producing Champagnes of epic scale and riveting minerality.
Pierrières may be the ideal place to witness Collin's unique style. Its unusual terroir lends a pronounced chalkiness and a lovely, racy finesse to the wine.
Of Ulysse Collin's lineup, Les Pierrières offers the most precise, penetrating minerality and lifted elegance.
Collin recently began to release Champagnes with extended lees aging. The entire lineup is brilliant, but the extended lees aging is simply on another level.
Pierrières is a 1.2 ha vineyard located in the village of Vert-Toulon. In Pierrières, the chalk in the vineyard is extremely close to the surface and mixed with black silex.
It is incisive, powerful, and complex. It covers an incredibly wide range, from layers of citrus to stone fruits, stony minerality, smoke, and herbs. There's an amazing radiant expansiveness to the wine. The 2015 base really flaunts how the wine combines full-throttle intensity with focused verve. There's vivid citrus and floral notes with a tactile chalky imprint.
Ulysse Collin is producing some of the most intriguing and individualistic Champagnes. Over the past handful of vintages, Collin's wines have clicked into high gear. This is the final offer from a recent purchase. It seemed like the perfect place to end. Pierrières is one the most thrilling bottles of the lineup.

William Kelley, The Wine Advocate: "Collin elected to retain some 4,000 bottles of the NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Pierrières (2015) for additional maturation on the lees, disgorging them after 48 months in March 2020 with the usual 1.7 grams per liter dosage. Mingling aromas of citrus oil, fresh bread, macadamia nuts, crushed chalk and white flowers, it's full-bodied, multidimensional and tightly wound, with a deep and layered mid-palate, racy acids and a long, intensely chalky finish. As usual, it's the most chiseled, mineral wine in the range, but the additional time on lees has given the wine another dimension."
