Ramonet is known for producing some of the most coveted White Burgundies in the world.
Today, we turn to one of the domaine's reds.
Like their whites, Ramonet’s reds show beautiful concentration and breeding. We love Ramonet’s Chassagne Rouge in particular for the incredible refinement, nuance and value it delivers.
Chassagne Rouge is often an overlooked category, but the best examples possess a gorgeous range of pristine fruits, earth and minerality, coupled with lovely aromatics and texture. Ramonet’s is one of our favorite expressions of the site, capturing it with startling precision and clarity.
The 2014 is an especially vibrant, fresh and nimble vintage for Ramonet’s Chassagne Rouge, but it also struts a layered complexity that's rare for a village wine. Burghound's note captures the 2014 well: "The vibrant and wonderfully delicious middle weight flavors are almost gulpable yet there is good depth on the balanced and lingering finish...it is so inviting now that it's hard to resist."
In 2014, Ramonet’s Chassagne Rouge flaunts striking perfume and a stunning spectrum of bright red fruits, soil, stone, spices, florals and dried herbs. There’s a sense of understated elegance, along with plenty of vivacity and lift.
Like Coche and Lafon, Ramonet is one of the stars of White Burgundy with a lineup of extremely impressive reds. While the 2014 Chassagne Rouge is drinking beautifully now, it also promises to evolve for the next decade plus. When you consider Ramonet's world-class standing and the domaine's track record for aging, the value here becomes indisputable. Don't miss.
