"Unequivocally the most
profound young wine... "
2010 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays
2010 marks a point where Clos des Lambrays hit a new level.
The Clos des Lambrays has a storied past - the 1949 is one of the legends of the Côte d'Or.
I remember the first time I tasted the 2010 Clos des Lambrays and how happy I was to see how this historic domaine had returned to form. The 2010 Clos des Lambrays is simply the best wine that we've tasted from them in a long time.
John Gilman comes out and places the 2010 Lambrays collection in a category with the best of the great 2010 vintage, calling it "clearly amongst the greatest wines I tasted from this historic vintage."
Clos des Lambrays occupies a strange position that presents a huge upside for buyers. It's a domaine that's really starting to hit its stride, but prices haven't caught up.
We all know that value like this doesn't last very long. In Clos des Lambrays case, it seems likely it will come to an end soon. LVMH purchased the site in 2014 and there are rumors of significant price increases. When you taste a wine like the 2010 Clos des Lambrays, you know that it's a deal that's just too good last.
What's most striking about the 2010 Lambrays is its purity, its precision and its depth. It's really a gorgeous wine. Morey-St-Denis is often presented as a blend of the brawn of Gevrey and the elegance of Chambolle, and the 2010 displays this wonderfully. There is a commanding structure with a fair amount of muscle and tannic backbone and yet there are floral tones and those tannins have a suaveness to them.
I jumped on this small parcel when it came across my desk. I'm convinced that this is going to age really well and be considered one of the top Lambrays.
