As we've said before, the Kabinetts from the vintage are thrilling in a way that we haven't seen for decades. Prüm's Wehlener is simply gorgeous. It comes very close to capturing the featherweight and eternally refreshing ideal of the category.
The 2021 Kabinett has an amazing lithe density while boasting a laser beam of cutting acidity. This is a decidedly bright expression of Riesling: A core of energetic slate-y minerality is complemented by a silky layer of gossamer citrus and white flowers.
Along with Egon Müller and Willi Schaefer, Prüm has provided me with the greatest number of stunning old bottles of German wine. Given the harmony and verve of the 2021 Wehlener, we expect it age beautifully.
