Unparalleled
2012 Montevertine Rosso di Toscano
"Lovely depth and freshness" - Antonio Galloni
If Le Pergole is Montevertine’s Magnum Opus, the Rosso di Toscano undoubtedly represents the estate’s greatest value. Don't mistake this as faint praise. The Rosso is a dead serious bottle that's often stunning after a decade of age.
Montevertine has long been renowned for producing some of the most incredibly elegant and refined expressions of Sangiovese. Few producers are able to tease out as much soulful complexity and compelling nuance from the grape.
The 2012 Montevertine is a very lively and balanced edition of this wine. There's a subtle mineral streak and unmistakable clarity. It possesses vibrant notes of bright cherry, flowers, spice and tobacco. There is grace and finesse, elevated by seductive aromatics and wonderful freshness.
Without sacrificing depth or elegance, the 2012 is a really friendly edition of this wine. We're fond of how immediately charming the 2012 is. There's an exuberance of aromatics and agility that's lovely, especially at the table.
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in Chianti Classico. Here, and in Montevertine's hands, Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of incisive class and beautifully haunting aromatics. The 2012 exemplifies this in a very extroverted and compelling way.
