When it comes to value in Piedmont, it's Roagna's Langhe Rosso that we reach for.
Langhe Rosso is a humble designation (like Bourgogne Rouge), but Roagna's has no trouble going head-to-head with serious Barolos and Barbarescos.
Roagna's Langhe Rosso is a wine that overdelivers in a big way. Without a doubt, it represents some of the best value that we know of for traditional Nebbiolo.
For many, Langhe Rosso is an easy-going category, but Roagna's is made in a dead serious fashion. The wine sees a month-long maceration, followed by several years in large oak casks, and a year in bottle. The grapes come from two highly coveted sites - Pira in Barolo's Castiglione Falleto, and Pajé in Barbaresco. Any vines in these sites under 20 years old go into the Langhe Rosso.
The 2015 Langhe Rosso possesses a beautiful purity of fruit and serious punch and length. The ripeness and accessibility of the vintage provided a cushion for the stern underlying structure. It's endowed with a gorgeous range of vivid dark fruits, dried florals, game, spices, minerals, and leather.Â
You get an incredible amount of pedigree, finesse and nuance for the price. This is a wine that you’ll want to return to again and again. We strongly advise going deep on this.
