"One of the great Burgundy producers...The style is pure, accurate and high-impact without a great show of weight."
-Matt Kramer, Making Sense of Burgundy

As we've written before, spend some time in the cellars of serious Burgundy collectors and along with the elite regulars (Roumier, Rousseau, DRC, etc) you will often find a corner stocked with Mugneret-Gibourg.

The wines are that good.

In fact, they are among our absolute favorites, year in and year out, though there's no denying that something seems to have happened since 2005. The wines have simply reached a new, unprecedented level.

Though the "unusually good energy" quote comes from the Burghound review of the 09 Echezeaux, it suggests an aspect of this domaine that's important, essential even. The Mugneret-Gibourg sisters are soft spoken and unbelievably kind. They are authentic and serious and beautiful people, and this seems to come through in the wines themselves. They all have an "unusually good energy."

The style at Mugneret-Gibourg is very hard to describe, though Kramer does a good job above. The wines are full, plush, with mysterious dark fruit and spice, yet as Kramer says, they are "accurate," precise... they are stylish, with perfect curves in all the right places and a delicacy that is haunting.

2009 is the first vintage since 2005 to come out of the gates with such a seduction of fruit, such ripe flesh and tannin. This is an absolutely superb collection - the style of Mugneret-Gibourg dovetailing perfectly with the essentials of the vintage itself.

The Mugneret-Gibourg sisters described the vintage as, "not only easy to vinify but a pleasure as well as the wines almost made themselves."

Today we focus on four favorites at very sharp pricing: The Grand Cru Echezeaux, the Gevrey 1er Cru (which is actually de-classified Ruchottes), the Chambolle 1er Feusselottes and the Nuits-St-Georges 1er Chaignots.
