Laherte's 2018s blew us away when we tasted them.
As is often the case, the Grandes Crayères is the star of this stunning tasting.
This is an amazing bottle of Champagne. The combination of terroir-soaked honesty and sophistication made it stand out.
Over the past handful of years, Laherte has emerged as one of the most talented growers in Champagne. The majority of Laherte's vines are in Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, an area between the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, that has chalky soil with a thin layer of clay on top. It's hard not to feel how the chalk contributes to Laherte's signature of tension and fineness.
The Grandes Crayères is all Chardonnay and is sourced from two very chalky parcels in Chavot planted in 1953 and 1978. The 2018 has incredible clarity with a jaw-dropping, multifaceted, and nuanced complexity. We loved its kinetic energy and appealing texture.
The 2018 Grandes Crayères is a monument to how skilled the winemaking at Laherte is. This is an amazing bottle of grower Champagne.
