"Villages-level wines rarely are as good as this"

Bachelet's Gevrey is famous for boxing well above its weight class. However, the 2020 sets a new standard.

Along with Roumier's Chambolle and Mugneret-Gibourg's Vosne, Bachelet's Gevrey is one of the villages wines that collectors buy cases of and drink over decades.

The old vines really make their presence felt in the wine's density and gripping intensity. The vines average 60 to 70 years old, with the oldest dating back to 1932.

The 2020 Gevrey boasts an incredible harmony. The wine combines suavely textured layered complexity and beautiful precision and energy. It's one of those rare wines where nothing feels out of place.

I'll bring this to a close. Bachelet's 2020 Gevrey seems destined to be one of the greats. Given Bachelet's fan club, we expect our modest parcel to disappear quickly.

Burghound: "Here the beautifully layered nose combines notes of black cherry liqueur with hints of earth, game, underbrush and humus. There is once again excellent energy and precision to the sleek and delicious medium weight flavors that possess a seductive texture before terminating in an impressively persistent and well-balanced finale. Villages-level wines rarely are as good as this and it's one to buy if you can find it."
