Quantities are very limited, and according to Klaus Peter Keller, 2022 is one of the greatest vintages ever for German Pinot Noir.
These facts, along with Wasenhaus' cult status, will likely be more than enough to quickly empty our little stash of this stunning Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

This offer is one that will likely test your reaction time; how fast are you? The early bird gets the Wasenhaus...
Despite this, a little bit of history is important here. Even among the great sites of Wasenhaus, Bellen, and Möhlin especially, the Kanzel is special. This is a site once owned and farmed by the legendary (if little known in the U.S.) Henrik Möbitz.
Möbitz, along with Enderle & Moll, began the Pinot Noir renaissance in Germany's Baden, focusing on small, old-vine plots, tucked into the steeper and hard-to-farm valleys of the Black Forest.
Möbitz was among the first to consider the age of the vines, the terroir - to redirect the obsession with ripeness to a more honest dialogue with restraint, with what a cool-climate Spätburgunder could be.
The Kanzel is a site high up on the Ölberg, above the Möhlin. It has an eastern exposition and was one of Möbitz's coolest sites. He thought the wine was among his most structured, requiring time... but it was also his most elegant wine. Half of the vines of this tiny parcel Möbitz planted himself - a French selection massale - the other half are older German clones.
When Möbitz stopped farming the Kanzel, he sold the entire parcel to Wasenhaus. The legacy of Möbitz, the greatness of this site, continues through Wasenhaus.
Indeed, the Kanzel has fine layers of both bright and dark-berry fruit; the dense clay and limestone soil gives the wine a fine salty minerality, as well as a defined structure. This combination - density and concentration with clarity and lightness. It is magical.
This is one of Wasenhaus' rarest Pinots; it is also one of their greatest. This wine, in this vintage, should not be missed. It will develop beautifully in the cellar for a decade or longer.
