"Well worth seeking out" -Burghound
Purity, subtlety, and elegance are the calling cards of Chandon de Briailles. It's a style that has won this domaine loyal fans for decades. You'll find Chandon de Briailles in the cellars of everyone from wine geeks to blue-chip collectors.
Currently, Chandon de Briailles is making the best wines I've tasted from the domaine, and their 2019s are thrilling.
As is often the case, Île des Vergelesses is one of the highlights of the collection.
Île des Vergelesses is a largely unheralded 1er Cru. Many hold Île des Vergelesses in extremely high regard. None other than Clive Coates has argued that Chandon de Briailles' holdings here merit Grand Cru status. Chandon de Briailles has some impressive Grand Cru holdings, including Corton-Charlemagne. In many ways, though, Île des Vergelesses is the estate's flagship.
Their 2019 Île des Vergelesses is silky textured and has a crystalline elegance. The wine has a beguiling lift and perfume with an almost sparkling clarity. The balance and super-fine (but present) tannic structure promise that this will age beautifully.
This is just a very compelling example of a finely rendered red Burgundy. The fact that it's sharply priced only sweetens the deal. I'm very happy to be able to offer this wine again.

Burghound: "An even more floral-suffused nose offers another step up in elegance with its attractively spiced aromas of rose petal, violet, sandalwood and cool red cherry. The sleek, intense and sophisticated medium weight flavors brim with minerality and dry extract on the balanced, persistent and complex finale. This mildly austere effort will need most of a decade to arrive at its peak - well worth seeking out"
