"What a spectacular wine in the making!"
2015 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Kabinett

Posted by Joe Salamone

Scharzhofberg and Egon Müller are one of the great marriages in all of wine.

Scharzhofberg is a great site. Unlike many of Germany's top sites, where potential ripeness is an important part of the equation, Scharzhofberg works on a different logic. The site produces wines with relatively low oechsle (ripeness) levels.

Scharzhofbergers from Müller in any vintage thrive on steely finesse that's full of cut and a cool, mineral-drenched length that boasts the wine's nobility. They are some of the greatest white wines around.

Müller's 2015s are some of our favorites from recent vintages. Egon Müller compares his 2015s to his 1990s, which are amazing wines - some of the best of the past few decades.

A well-aged bottle of Müller Kabinett is one of our most beloved wine experiences. Everything from Müller's QbA to his Eiswein is absolutely stunning. Recently, though, we've developed a particular fondness for the Kabinetts. The combination of intensity and walk on tip-toe weightlessness is incredibly compelling. The 2015 is just starting to enter what should be a long prime drinking window.

The 2015 Kabinett shows incredible focus, harmony, and nuanced depth. It's profoundly and energetically mineral with pristine floral, citrus, and herb notes. It's super-focused and long.

Sadly, we just don't have a lot of Müller's 2015 Kabinett, which as usual, is one of the high points of the vintage. Please get your orders in early.

Mosel Fine Wines: "Quite shy and even non-saying at first, this only gradually reveals gorgeously elegant and beautifully integrated scents of cassis, grapefruit, pear and flowery herbs on the nose. The wine proves finely spiced on the palate and oozes freshness and elegance as zesty acidity provides focus to the brilliant core of minerals running through the wine. The wine is still on the backward side, both flavor wise and in the finish but the balance and elegance are simply stunning. This will need time to develop aromatically but should then prove a great vibrant rendition of a Scharzhofberger Kabinett.  In many ways, this reminds us of a slightly deeper version of the brilliant 1990. What a spectacular wine in the making!"
