"Will most likely be the wine of the vintage"
2012 Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Hommage á Jacques Perrin
Few bottles from the Southern Rhône have a legacy of greatness comparable to Beaucastel's top bottling, the Hommage á Jacques Perrin.
The Hommage is produced only in top vintages; the quantities produced rarely exceed a mere 500 cases. It's one of the Southern Rhône's most intensely hunted and loved wines.
Beaucastel is a name that looms large for those obsessed with the Southern Rhône. Few, if any, producers in the region possess such a storied and long tradition of excellence. Hommage á Jacques Perrin is the jewel in the crown.
I'm happy to offer Beaucastel's 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage á Jacques Perrin for $439.95 per bottle.
The 2012 Hommage has all the markings of an absolutely epic edition of this wine. Jeb Dunnuck proclaiming that it "will most likely be the wine of the vintage" begins to make this clear. He goes on to highlight its "stunning purity and massive structure."
We've been really impressed with what we've tasted from the 2012 vintage. It offers up something close to a dream brew in terms of ripeness, acidity and tannic grip. Depth, substance and verve - it's all there in 2012.
Marc Perrin of Beaucastel compares the 2012 to the 1989, a wine that Robert Parker called "unquestionably one of the greatest red wines I have ever tasted."
The Mourvèdre-dominated Hommage is legendary for its aging capabilities. Catching Hommage in perfect maturity is one of the most moving, unforgettable and simply deeply impressive experiences in wine.
Quantities of Hommage á Jacques Perrin are always painfully small.

Jeb Dunnuck: "More rich and layered, with thrilling aromas and flavors of blueberry, blackberry, licorice, crushed stone, lavender and underbrush, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin will most likely be the wine of the vintage. Compared to the 1989 by Marc Perrin, it is full-bodied and massively constructed, with a deep, layered mid-palate, stunning purity and massive structure that’s partially hidden by all of the fruit. It should be given a handful of years in the cellar (rest assured, it can deliver plenty of pleasure in its youth) and then consumed over the following two decades or more."
