Without a doubt, Berthaut-Gerbet's 2019 Bourgogne - Hautes Côtes de Nuits is the greatest red Burgundy value that I've encountered in many years.

I love Burgundy of all stripes, but finding truly compelling examples under the $45 mark is extremely rare.
At as low as $31.95, Berthaut-Gerbet's Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Nuits encapsulates so much that makes Burgundy special for me. Beyond this, it is a wine of utter joyfulness. If this wasn't my wine of the year, it would certainly be a "back up the truck offer."
Berthaut-Gerbet's 2019 is about texture and purity above all else. It's a beautifully articulate wine with a buoying undercurrent that makes red Burgundy so unique. There's bright fruits and an earthy minerality that are beautifully interwoven. The overall presentation is one of refinement.
Since her first vintage, I’ve been seriously impressed with Amélie Berthaut’s wines. She’s quickly establishing Berthaut-Gerbet as one of Burgundy’s most exciting estates. In 2013, at just 25 years old, Amélie Berthaut took over the majority of her mother and father’s separate estates to form Berthaut-Gerbet. Her wines immediately created a major stir.
The 2019 Berthaut-Gerbet Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Nuits shows just how skillful Berthaut's winemaking is. Making a wine this satisfying at this level is an extraordinary accomplishment. It's a pleasure to offer this as my wine of the year.
