It’s been a while since I've participated in Crush’s Wine of the Year program. I needed an extraordinary bottle to get me off the sidelines.
It's hard not to take note of the similarities between today's offer and my 2012 Wine of the Year (2010 Roulot 1er Cru). Both are white Burgundies from great vintages made by absolute masters of the genre.
I'm very happy to present the 2017 Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot Cuvée Clement et Emma as my Wine of the Year.
I've priced the 2017 Clement et Emma very sharply to get the wine in as many hands as possible. It's simply a "must try" wine.
I should mention that the wine is in stock and ready for immediate delivery.
Pierre-Yves Colin is turning out dynamite white Burgundies, and along with Coche and Roulot, they form a holy triumvirate.
There's no shortage of places to witness Pierre Yves's brilliance, but for me, it shines brightest in Chassagne. He has a magic touch with this village. In his hands, Chassagne assumes an unmatched grandness of stature that possesses extraordinary finesse and crackling energy.
The Abbaye de Morgeot bottling elevates his work in Chassagne to a profound level. It's made from a choice parcel of the Morgeot 1er Cru and the wine really makes this clear. You sense a distinctive grandeur of scale and refinement.
In 2017, Colin-Morey's Abbaye de Morgeot is jaw-droppingly great. It's a white Burgundy vintage that I'm in love with. Only rarely does one encounter a vintage that produces wines with this level of clarity and harmony.
Even keeping in mind the incredible quality of the vintage, Pierre Yves turned out a heartbreaking cast of wines. I've now enjoyed this cuvée numerous times, and I had to give it the spotlight that it deserves.
