Winter Mixed Case

Posted by CrushWine

Assembling a Crush mixed case is no casual affair. Trying to strike a balance between the wines, the prices and their appropriateness for the season has been the cause of many disagreements. But I think we've come up with the most balanced mixed case in terms of style and price.

Today, as the snow gently blankets NYC, we bring you our winter mixed case. We've discounted every bottle 20%, bringing the the case under $200. Think of it this way - you get 12 bottles that used to be $20+, for about $16 a bottle.

Your feedback has also been taken into account: You asked for an all-red option (it's winter after all!) and we're ready to deliver. Today we offer both a "Red Only" case and a case that is "Red-Heavy," having 9 reds with 3 whites.

When ordering, please do let us know if you would like the Red Only or the Red-Heavy case!

As with all mixed cases, we sought out wines that drink well beyond their price points. There are far too many amazing wines that suit too many occasions to list here, but we've provided full tasting notes below.

Some highlights include the absolutely food friendly Jaume Cotes du Rhone and Clos Roche Blanche Gamay. The sheer uniqueness of Le Roc's Cotes du Frontonais Cuvee Reserve and Desvignes Morgon Cote du Py, a Beaujolais Cru that is not to be missed. And once you've embraced the more intellectual side of those two wines, Orin Swift's Prisoner's unabashed lushness will be the perfect change of pace.

Check out the website regularly, because as the seasons change, so will our mixed case. In fact, we will *always* have a tailored mixed case available on-line, so when these 12 bottles run out, don't hesitate to reorder.Take advantage of the 20% discount! To order, just decide if you prefer our "Red Only" mixed case or the "Red/White" mixed case and then call (212) 980-9463 to order.

Crush Winter Mixed Case

Red

2005 Tour de Tourteau

A classic affordable Bordeaux from a great vintage. While there's an ample amount of fruit, Bordeaux's signature elements of tobacco and pencil lead are also present.

2007 Jaume Cotes du Rhone "Les Friandes"

Jaume's Cotes du Rhone is amazingly fresh and juicy. The upfront cherry fruits are complicated by layers of roasted herbs.

2004 Le Roc Cuvee Reserve Frontannais
Originating from just outside of Toulouse in the South-Western France, Le Roc's Cuvee Reserve is composed of 50% Negrette and 25% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. This serious structured wine has nicely perfumed raspberry and blackberry fruit with herbs and spice.

200 Desvignes Morgon Cote du Py
The Desvignes CĂ´te du Py has a broad shoulder of dark and red fruits, blackberry and blueberry providing the key tones balanced by the lighter, more vivid red fruits. There's a wonderful delicate edging of dried herbs and flowers and the delivery has a real life and energy to it - this is the charm of 2006 that is just phenomenal when it's matched to the appropriate concentration.

2007 Altare Dolcetto d'Alba
Altare's Dolcetto is always a Crush favorite. It offers the supple texture that makes the grape so attractive with a level of complexity that few can match. The purple fruits leap from the glass with notes of licorice and subtle savory notes.

2007 Orin Swift The Prisoner
This wine with its veritable laundry list of grapes—every from Zin to Charbono—is a consistent customer favorite. The wine is wonderfully lush and hedonistic. Good times.

2005 Peyredoulle Maine Criquau

Peyredoulle is slightly less fruited and has more structure than Tour de Tourteau. Smoke and cigar box complement the wines plum and cassis fruits.

2007 Clos Roche Blance Gamay

A nicely versatile food wine. That offers up plenty of fruit, earth, minerals and acidity. A perennial favorite.

2007 Sur Malbec
A juicy cocktail wine that our customers never seem to get enough of. Dense, sappy and very ripe with a long, long finish.

Red Only Case Includes

2007 Fleur Pinot Noir

Another easy-going entry for cocktail parties or just sipping on the couch. Pinot's silky texture is on full display with spice and bright red fruits.

2006 Texier Cotes-du-Rhone
Texier crafts some of the purest and most balanced Rhone wines around. His Cotes du Rhone exhibits a verve and focus that's rarely seen. A beauty.

2006 Moissenet-Bonnard Bourgogne Rouge

Moissenet-Bonnard delivers one of the best values of 06 Bourgogne. Dark spiced red fruits are backed up by a vibrant acidity.

Red/White Case Includes

2007 Tour de Goupin Bordeaux Blanc
A great value Bordeaux blanc that pairs wonderfully with fish and vegetable dishes. This wine shows the typical green fruit of Sauvignon Blanc with notes of tarragon, mint and smoky undertones.

2007 Blanco Nieva Rueda Pie Franco
Old, prepheloxera vines produce this concentrated lemon infused mineral bomb. A great wine at any price; an absolute steal at this one.

2006 Patrick Javillier Bourgogne Cuvee des Forgets
Javillier's Bourgogne Forgets easily transcend its humble Bourgogne designation. The vineyards are just outside of the famed Meursault appellation and possess much of the stylish richness that has made Meursault so well known.
