Without Artifice - 0.66ha:
2019 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

Posted by Ian McFadden

Few wines capture the haunting beauty of Chambolle like Bertheau's Charmes does.

Bertheau is almost unrivaled in rendering Burgundies of purity and transparency. I've always loved the Charmes for how it dramatizes these qualities.

It delivers an incredible amount of finesse and beautiful refinement. The issue is that it comes from a 0.66ha parcel and can be maddening to track down. The 2019 has been especially painful to locate.

I'm very happy to offer this modest parcel of Bertheau's 2019 Charmes, but I'm expecting a very quick sell out.

There's an enormous amount of excitement surrounding the 2019 red Burgundies. It's a vintage that combines ripeness while miraculously remaining fresh and with vivid terroir imprints.

You can expect the 2019 to be a stunning edition of the wine. It will be a Bertheau Charmes of power while delivering all of the haunting beauty and finesse of Chambolle. The combination bodes very well for aging.

Bertheau's wines are the archetypes of just how finessed and pure Burgundy can be. I'm always excited to have the opportunity to offer the wines, especially the Charmes. I encourage you to get your orders in early. I don't expect this modest parcel to stick around for long.

Burghound: "Here too there is just enough wood present to comment upon framing the ripe, elegant and nicely layered aromas of plum, anise, sandalwood and an interesting whiff of dried tangerine peel. The succulent, round and seductively textured medium weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the impressively persistent, balanced and solidly complex finale. While this could be enjoyed young, 8 to 10 years of bottle age should help to bring out even better depth. Worth considering."
