Our recent offers have focused on Berthaut-Gerbet's over-achieving and affordable bottlings (Bourgogne Rouge and Côtes de Nuits Villages Rouge). Today, we depart from this course to offer the 2022 Vosne-Romanée.
Vosne is one of Burgundy's most beloved villages and of course, home to many of the greatest Grand Crus. The profile of Vosne is seductive with beguiling spice. Amile Berthaut renders Vosne with her signature delicacy and transparency.
Since her first vintage, I’ve been seriously impressed with Amélie Berthaut’s wines. She’s quickly establishing Berthaut-Gerbet as one of Burgundy’s most exciting estates. In 2013, at just 25 years old, Amélie Berthaut took over the majority of her mother and father’s separate estates to form Berthaut-Gerbet. Her wines immediately created a major stir.
The 2022 dramatizes why this estate immediately fascinated Burgundy fans. It offers layers of spice, floral notes, and earthy undertones. The beautifully suave texture is complemented by serious minerality coursing through it. There's also a finessed acidity that gives the wine a very appealing agility.
The 2022 captures the beauty of Vosne without artifice and with extreme clarity. In short, this is a bottle that perfectly sums up why I like Amélie Berthaut's wines so much.
