Without Artifice, Loire Value:
2014 Chateau du Hureau Saumur-Champigny
Fours à Chaux

We've written many times about how good 2014 was in the Loire. Today's offer highlights how the vintage elevated wines to seldom seen heights. For as low as $22, Hureau's 2014 Fours à Chaux is a really serious bottle for the money. It's easy to call it one of the best deals we've come across in months.

One of the things that we admire most about Hureau's style is their honesty. Saumur is home to many grand, ambitious and heavy hitting estates - people like Clos Rougeard, Roches Neuves, Collier and Guiberteau. We're fans of each of these domaines, but the completely different enjoyment that Hureau offers is very compelling to us.

Here you have Cabernet Franc straight up, without artifice, and boasting the grape's mineral, spice and herb-tinged fruits with great detail and purity.

The 2014 vintage produced wines of incredible length, poise and finesse. You really sense this in Fours à Chaux's harmony, completeness and deep complexity.

Fours à Chaux comes from 20-50 year old vines, planted in sandy and clay soils that lie above chalky limestone tuffeau. It's a southeast facing site that ripens well, endowing the wine with a striking textural dimension. The wine's dark mineral-inflected elegance and buoyant acidity really make themselves felt as well.

In 2014, Hureau’s Fours à Chaux flaunts a steely mineral core, along with vibrant red fruits, dried herbs, floral notes, and spices. It’s a striking, aromatically gorgeous expression of Cab Franc, with amazing lift and precision.

We feel very lucky when we find bottles that deliver so much value. There's special 4-pack pricing below, because this is a wine to have around in quantity. Deals like this are rare, so stock up.
