Without Peer Revisited: 2020 Pascal Cotat Chavignol Rosé

Posted by Joe Salamone

Every year, we buy as much Pascal Cotat Rosé as we can find.

The reason is simple: It is one of the most ageworthy and compelling rosés in existence.

What happens to Pascal Cotat's Rosé in the cellar is without peer. The wine maintains the silkiness of its youth, but over time a stony minerality defines the wine. The terroir comes to dominate the rosé with a singular minerality. This is what makes Cotat's rosé so exciting.

When it comes to Sancerre, Cotat's village of Chavignol is a very special place. Chavignol is absolutely defined by its terroir - Kimmeridgian marl, the same soil as parts of Chablis - that imbues the wine with tense, saline minerality.

The 2020 is an especially vivid and concentrated vintage of the rosé. There's plenty of chalky tension and incredibly pure layered red fruits.

I'm going to wrap this up. Pascal Cotat's Rosé has a huge following and there's no point fanning the fire.
