Without Peer - The Undeniable Magic of Müller:
2014 Egon Muller Scharzhof QbA

Posted by Joe Salamone

Egon Müller produces some of the greatest expressions of Riesling on the planet. There may be no better place to witness this than his QbA.

Traditionally, QbA is a humble category housing producers' "Estate" wines. They can be nice wines, but seldom are they profound. Müller's QbA transcends the entire designation. It's without peer.

Müller's QbA is a dead serious and thrilling bottle of Riesling. Every year, we drink an obscene amount of it and stash more in our cellars where it benefits from a decade long slumber.

Muller's 2014s are some of the greatest examples of the vintage. The wines integrate density and high acidity into a harmonious and profoundly dynamic whole.

The 2014 QbA flaunts what makes Muller's 2014s so stunning. There's a beautiful tension and tactile mineral elegance that leads to a nicely refined and gripping long finish. There's no QbA, and few Rieslings anywhere, with this level of breeding.

Müller's QbA is sourced from vines in Saarburg, Kanzem, Wawern, Oberemmel and often some Scharzhofberger finds its way into the blend. The combination of top vineyards and Müller's intense dedication and spare-no-expense winemaking leave an obvious mark on the wine.

There is simply no greater, more storied estate in Germany than Egon Müller. The top to bottom quality makes clear that the estate is simply on another level. The 2014 QbA shows that Müller is at the top of his game.
