Without Peer - The Undeniable Magic of Müller:
2018 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Kabinett

Posted by Joe Salamone

Catching a bottle of Müller's Kabinett in the zone is one of our favorite wine experiences.

Everything by Müller, from QbA to Eiswein, is absolutely stunning. Recently, though, we're obsessed with the Kabinett. The way that it manages intensity without weight makes it utterly and uniquely compelling.

Scharzhofberg and Egon Müller is one of the great marriages in all of wine. Scharzhofberg is a great site. Unlike many of Germany's top sites where potential ripeness is an important part of the equation, Scharzhofberg works on a different logic. The site produces wines with relatively low oechsle (ripeness) levels.

Scharzhofberger Kabinetts, in any vintage, thrive on steely finesse, full of cut and mineral-drenched length that emphasizes the wine's nobility. The 2018 is certainly a richer vintage of the Kabinett, but the breeding and nervy core really shine through. It's this melding of power and vivacity that makes the 2018 so fascinating and promises that it will age nicely. Müller can excel in warm vintages and 2018 is a case in point.

For us, Scharzhofberger Kabinett is one of our favorite wines anywhere. Bottles with 20 or even 30 years of age have blown us away. Please keep in mind that whenever we offer Müller's Kabinett it disappears quickly.
