- 44 Month Aged Tequila
Avión Tequila Reserva 44 Extra Añejo
Ultra-Aged, Ultra-Limited
Avión's entire line is about commitment to craftsmanship, but Reserva 44 takes it to a stunning new extreme.
We were already big fans of the Reposado and Añejo from this quality-obsessed producer, but nothing prepared us for Avión's Reserva 44 Extra Añejo, their latest, extremely limited-edition release.
It's with great pleasure that I offer Avión's Tequila Reserva 44 Extra Añejo today at $149.95 per bottle.
True to its name, Reserva 44 is aged for 44 months, resulting in a tequila that is beautifully dark and richly complex. The Extra Añejo designation was created in 2006 for tequilas that see at least three years of aging, and it shouldn't come as a surprise that Avión takes the time and expense to age their Reserva 44 longer to take it to the next level.
Like Avión's entire line, Reserva 44 is crafted from agave that's been handpicked and meticulously selected from Avión's own estate in Jalisco, Mexico. The agave is grown at 7,000 feet above sea level, instilling a tension of delicacy and ultra-richness to this blend.
The agave is then slow roasted to lock in the lush natural flavors. The first 43 months of the aging process are spent in large oak barrels, with the final month in petite new oak barrels that are carefully rotated daily for maximum interaction with the wood. This is obsessive perfectionism we're grateful for.
This may be the greatest aged tequila we've ever experienced.
Finally, the spirit undergoes Avión'sproprietary ultra-slow filtration process that contributes to the overall smoothness. And their method is proprietary, so if it seems that these tequilas reach new levels of smoothness and velvet, well, there's a reason for that.
We don't always have patience for pretty bottles, but this bottling has the substance to back up its good looks. And since we place so much confidence in the quality inside the bottle, we'll happily take a presentation that is so good looking, especially in the throes of holiday gift giving. The tequila is hand filled in fire-polished crystal bottles and comes in a luxury gift box, an opulent touch for an exemplary tequila.
This would make an impressive gift for any quality-minded tequila drinker, and will surely seduce anyone who thinks tequila doesn’t stand to be sipped.
Reserva 44 is a first production for Avión, and an extremely limited release. There are only 744 cases for the world, and only 150 cases were released for the holiday season. Not a moment too soon.
