"...worth a special search to locate and tuck away in the cellar." -John Gilman

There's still value in Burgundy. Today's offer drives this home.

John Gilman is unreserved in his praise for the 2011 Bouchard 1er Cru Clos des Chênes. We recommend you heed his advice when he says, "This will be a wine that will be worth a special search to locate and tuck away in the cellar."

Don’t let the village-level pricing fool you: 2011 Bouchard Clos des Chênes is serious red burgundy. Volnay's seductive texture and supreme finesse make this one of the most beloved villages in Burgundy. And pretty much across the board, pricing reflects this - many of Volnay's top 1er Crus cross the $100 mark. For value and outright quality, Bouchard’s Clos des Chênes has been a go-to red Burgundy of mine for years.

Bouchard made absolutely lovely wines in 2011. As Gilman said of Bouchard's showing in this unique vintage, "The 2011s here across the board are truly stunning wines."

The 2011 vintage in Burgundy produced very fresh, transparent wines with plenty of elegance and structural integrity. Bouchard stands out as one of the producers who harnessed nearly all of the positive attributes of 2011. Their Chênes dramatizes this: it offers beautifully clear and precise minerality, vibrant red fruits and more finesse than can any version of this wine I've tasted. Gilman just calls it, "a classic Clos des Chenes" and that works for us, too.

Burghound echoes much of this when he writes: "There is really lovely focus and detail to the vibrant medium-bodied flavors that exude a fine minerality on the delicious, balanced and exceptionally persistent finish."

Bouchard has been on an undeniable winning streak ever since Henriot took over production and placed the ultra-capable Philippe Prost in charge; with each vintage, the house seems to reach a new all-time high and the 2011s offer yet more evidence that the careful winemaking hasn't reached its peak yet.

A sub-$50 price tag for a Volnay 1er Cru that's this successful won't go overlooked. Give us your ideal order and we'll do our best.
