Lafon continues to go from strength to strength. His 2014s are breathtaking.
Now in its third vintage, this is the strongest Clos de la Baronne that we've seen. There's a rigor, completeness and fineness that the bottle has achieved.
2014 is one of the greatest young white Burgundy vintages that I've tasted. There's a harmony to the wines that shocks me every time I drink them. You get a rare combination of verve and mineral clarity, along with a crazy amount of concentration and presence.
Even in this context, Lafon killed it in 2014. The Clos de la Baronne is the perfect vantage point.
Clos de la Baronne is a 2.7ha monopole which includes 40-year-old vines. It's well known that Lafon's village bottlings transcend the category by a wide margin. They have no trouble going head to head with many 1er Crus. As such, the village bottlings quickly disappear from the market.
Clos de la Baronne possesses a similar resonance, length and intricate detail as their famous Clos de la Barre bottling.
The 2014 Clos de la Baronne is laser sharp with a beautiful depth of complexity. There's incredible silky finesse with a blazing, etched minerality.
This is a bottle that shows Lafon at the height of his powers. For White Burgundy fans, this is a don't miss.
