2008 Philipponnat Clos des Goisses
"A wine of explosive power and energy, the 2008 Clos des Goisses is magnificent." -Antionio Galloni

Without a doubt, this is one of the most anticipated 2008 Champagne releases.

Clos des Goisses is an absolutely unique experience of straining mineral power and aristocratic breeding. It is easily among the longest lived, most complicated and most mind-bendingly mineral wines in all of Champagne.

Along with 2002, 2008 is the best vintage of the decade. Where 2002 is defined by a high level of ripeness and muscle, 2008 is about purity, harmony and an energetic structure. We love the total package.

Combine the 2008 vintage with the singular grandeur of Clos des Goisses and it adds up to something absolutely riveting. It's a dream brew of depth, class and cut.

The Clos des Goisses vineyard is without equal in Champagne. Clos des Goisses is one of the steepest vineyards in all of Champagne, consisting of 5.5 perfectly south-facing hectares of very hard, deep chalk in the Marne. The incline is so extreme that nets are put up to catch workers who lose their footing during harvest.

Like I said at the very beginning, I've been excited to get my hands on 2008 Goisses for some time. Given the vintage and the Goisses' incredible track record, I don't expect our parcel to stick around for long.
