2012 Adam Goldtropfchen GG -Tension and Explosiveness

Posted by Joe Salamone

Thirty-something A.J. Adam has wasted no time putting the esoteric Dhroner Hofberg on the map for modern wine drinkers. He's quickly become one of Germany's cult winemakers.

In the process, he acquired parcels in the famed Piesporter Goldtröpfchen. This is where we focus our attention today, in particular a choice old vine, steeply terraced parcel high up in Goldtröpfchen called Laychen..

Adam only has 4ha in total and his cult reputation causes the wines to sell out quickly. His Goldtröpfchen is brutally limited - there is just one other listing in the U.S. for 750s and none for magnums.

We're only sending this to a small list of Riesling fanatics. Still, it will be gone in a flash.

Adam's Goldtröpfchen GG is epic in 2012. The mid-palate is explosive with minerals, herbs, spice and stone fruits with exotic flourishes. There's concentration, snap and clarity - the hallmarks of the '12 vintage.

We have been ranting about his wines since 2006; others (including the New York Times) have followed suit in the years since. As with Tim Fröhlich and a few others, Adam simply has "the touch" and every year the wines just get better.

The 2012 Goldtröpfchen GG really higlights this. The Adam style is on display in all its glory - it's dense, powerful and compact, yet incredibly clear, detailed and above all, tension filled. It's easily one of the most impressive wines of the vintage.

As I said earlier, quantities are very limited. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
