When it comes to Gonon's wines, the world has turned upside down.
Gonon's Saint-Josephs have attracted a cult following and landing the wines has become an arduous and expensive endeavor.
Prices for Gonon's 2015 Saint-Joseph have come close to doubling over the past year. With that said, along with producers like Allemend, Verset and Ledru, I'm more than happy to chase Gonon up the pricing ladder.
What the Gonon brothers achieve on the steep granite slopes of Saint-Joseph is amazing. Gonon is easily one of our favorite producers in the Northern RhĂ´ne.
Gonon's wines assume the classical proportions of the Northern RhĂ´ne at its best. They are pure and clear with an intricate and detailed presentation of blackberries, olives, violets, spice and forest floor notes wrapped around a smoky minerality.
The 2015 is simply killer. Across the Northern RhĂ´ne, the 2015 delivered a dream brew of concentration with clarity and finesse.
Gonon's 2015 Saint-Joseph boasts amazing clarity and serious, finely detailed length. Given the amount of harmony and gripping depth that it possesses, you can safely expect it to evolve into an absolutely stunning example of the Northern RhĂ´ne.
Pierre and Jean Gonon make some of the most compelling wines coming out of the Northern RhĂ´ne. There's no doubt that the 2015 will serve as a monument to this estate.
