For the past month, we've been beating the drum loudly for Jouan's 2015s.
Today, we focus on the delicious, value-laden wines of the range, Coteaux Bourguignons and Bourgogne Passetoutgrain.
These are wines that the entire staff drinks with abandon. They offer the perfect amount of interest and sheer drinkability. The 2015s are on a whole other level from the past vintages that we've loved so much. In this vintage, they're elevated. Both wines have more punch and concentration while maintaining the levity and refreshment that make them so joyous.
Of course, this isn't a big surprise. 2015 is shaping up to be one of the most important vintages of the past couple of decades. And its quality is most felt in the humble categories.
Jouan's wines are, above all else, about purity. Across the entire range, they thrive on subtlety and finesse. There's a quiet, pensiveness to the wines that I really love.
The Passetoutgrain is based on a 50/50 blend of Pinot and Gamay. It's a nimble, utterly delightful bottle that has a complexity that sneaks up on you. It leads with bright red fruits and then, slowly the backdrop of spice, minerality and forest floor moves toward the forefront, leaving the finish invigorating and complex.
The Coteaux Bourguignons is all Pinot Noir and boasts a dark-fruited profile with a silky mouthfeel. We're always taken by this bottle's feeling of honesty and immediacy and, at the same time, refinement. There's wonderful aromatics of earth, game and high-toned floral notes.
These represent some of the most beguiling expressions of inexpensive Burgundy that we know. In 2015, they overdeliver in a huge way. We created the special 6-pack pricing, because we expect that you'll want to drink these in quantity.
