2017 Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras

Posted by Ian McFadden

There's an undeniable magic to Roumier, and Cras gets to its beating heart.

Catch a bottle of Cras in its prime, and you'll find a wine cast in silk and intricate weaves that thrive on a delicate, understated elegance.

Les Cras is perched on a south-facing slope situated next to the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares. There's a radiant elegance and structured backbone to Cras that I really enjoy.

The 2017 Cras is one of those diamond-cut vintages where the wine's full glory is laid bare. Burghound's note captures the wine really well: "The sleek, intense and almost pungent mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess terrific delineation." The wine is finely etched with bright and full red cherry fruit, finely crushed minerals, and a gorgeous finish.

This is a dynamite vintage for Roumier's Cras. I expect it to be an absolutely heartbreaking wine with some age on it.

Burghound: "A whiff of reduction detracts slightly from the appeal of the overtly floral-inflected nose that reflects notes of violet, lilac, lavender and rose petal along with a fresh mix of red and dark cherries. The sleek, intense and almost pungent mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess terrific delineation on the dusty, firm and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. This is decidedly backward and compact at present and is going to require at least some patience first."
