A Sleeper From A Burgundy Benchmark
2017 Lamy St. Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes

Posted by Ian McFadden

Hubert Lamy is one of the standard-bearers for St. Aubin.

The 2017 Frionnes is animated by the sleek elegance and near perfect balance that defines Lamy's beautiful 2017s.

They have holdings in all of the top sites - Chatenière, En Remilly, and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien. While these wines receive most of the attention, people who taste through Lamy's line-up often flock to the 1er Cru Frionnes.

Originating from vines that date as far back as 1936, Frionnes is a wine for purists. It's fiercely mineral with a complex intermingling stone, saline, citrus, and stone.

In recent vintages, Lamy has emerged as one of the most exciting white Burgundy producers. They've really dialed in their sculpted and rigorour style to turn out extraordinary wines vintage after vintage. The 2017s represent Lamy in top form.

The 2017 Frionnes is animated by a sleek elegance and near perfect balance that defines Lamy's 2017s. Expect a white Burgundy of silky harmony and driving minerality. Subtle shavings of sweet herbs and ripe citrus add even more nuance to this extraordinary example of what Frionnes can bring to the table.

Word is definitely out on both Lamy and the 2017 vintage. The Frionnes boasts precision, elegance, and an overall depth of complexity that testifies to their success. It's difficult to find a white Burgundy at this level at a similar price.

Burghound: "Smoky white-fleshed fruit aromas are cut with lemongrass, wet stone and soft spice wisps. There is better volume to the intense, focused and delicious medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the impressively complex and lingering finish. This is very good and worth your consideration."
