For years now, Roagna has been the benchmark producer in Barbaresco and one of the most exciting estates in all of Piedmont.
Their 2014 Barbarescos are simply stunning.
Last fall, I visited Roagna and was blown away. The 2014 Barolos were excellent, but the Barbarescos were incredible.
We've worked with Roagna since opening nearly fifteen years ago, and young Luca Roagna has taken the estate to unimaginable heights. With each vintage, the wines seem to get stronger and stronger. The current level of textural allure and purity are mind-blowing.

It's difficult to think of Roagna and not think of the Pajé vineyard. They have other great sites, like Asili, but Pajé often seems like the beating heart of the estate.
In 2014, Pajè really shines. There's a subtle radiant complexity to the wine that's heartbreaking. You get everything from bright fruits to spice, earth, flowers, and much more.
For Barbaresco, 2014 is a seriously lovely vintage. It delivers everything that we want - verve, clarity, and beautiful terroir imprints. Galloni's summary captures the vintage nicely: "Vibrant, perfumed and beautifully delineated, the 2014s capture the essence of what makes Nebbiolo so compelling."
The 2014 Barbaresco Pajè is simply gorgeous. There's not much more that needs to be said. I strongly advise you to put at least a 3-pack in the cellar. I expect amazing things from this bottle.

Pliant and open-knit, the 2014 is surprisingly open for a young Roagna Barbaresco, which makes it almost shockingly easy to enjoy even now (in relative terms), in what is the very early going by Roagna standards. Even, so there is plenty of Nebbiolo structure and tannin. Sweet rose petal, mint, tobacco, underbrush, game, and sweet red berry fruit add to the wine's stunning allure.."
