Baby "Grand Cru"
2016 Keller Riesling von der Fels Trocken

Posted by Joe Salamone

You'd be hard pressed to find a bottle that delivers as much refinement and sophistication as Keller's von der Fels.

What it offers is not far from the level of complexity and breeding that you find in his GGs that can cost three times as much.

Keller turned out an amazing collection of 2016s. The wines are crystal clear with delineated stony minerality and a beautifully finessed length.

The 2016 von der Fels is brilliant. It delivers a luminous minerality that's complemented by ripe citrus notes and herbs. The von der Fels is amazingly poised with serious precision.

There's no doubt that it will age really well on the mid-term, say 8 years. Von der Fels' ability to age so well helps to explain why year after year people buy it in case quantities.

Klaus-Peter Keller is easily one of the most fascinating and talented winemakers we know. To get a sense of this, Levi Dalton's I'll Drink to That interview with Keller is very much worth listening to. There are many ways to highlight Keller's skill, but perhaps the best is what he achieves with a wine at the price point of von der Fels.
