Back-Vintage Chave
2007 Chave Hermitage Rouge

Posted by Ian McFadden

We always come back to Chave’s Hermitage. It’s one of our favorite wines in the world.

Today, I'm very happy to offer a small parcel of sharply priced 2007 Hermitage.

Hermitage is holy ground for Syrah. Still, when you taste Chave's next to his peers, it becomes very clear how special it is. It's amazing how Chave's wine can come off as utterly singular without betraying its terroir. It occupies a place alongside the greatest wines of the world.

It probably goes without saying that Chave produced one of the greatest examples of the 2007 vintage in Northern Rhône. The vintage was a riper one with a high-toned profile. Chave's 2007 possesses an incredible aromatic nuance and a staggering mineral inflected structure.

Like all Chave Hermitage, the 2007 has unparalleled grandeur and refined elegance. This is an earlier drinking vintage of his Hermitage, but that's in the context of a wine that peaks at 30 years of age in top vintages. What this means is that it is already wonderfully expressive while having a balance that promises it will evolve beautifully over the next decade.
